What is PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is an injectable treatment harnessing the healing and rejuvenating powers of our body’s own blood. When injected back into the skin, PRP accelerates the body's natural production of collagen and elastin to provide overall skin rejuvenation. PRP is often called “liquid gold” because of its use of natural growth factors in the blood to promote the body’s healing and repair process. It is a safe and natural way to refresh the under-eye area.

What are the benefits?

The delicate skin under our eyes is particularly thin and vulnerable to early signs of aging. Benefits of PRP include improvement in dark circles, fine lines, texture and “crepey” skin, loss of elasticity/firmness, leaving skin refreshed and rejuvenated.

Who Is A Candidate for PRP?

Men and women who want to improve the tone and texture of their complexion are usually great candidates for PRP. Since it naturally promotes collagen production, it's also a great treatment choice if you have tired or dull-looking skin. Speak with Dr. Schuering about any skin conditions, anemia, or blood disorders to decide if it's safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.

How does PRP work?

PRP is performed in-office with minimal down time. A small amount of blood is drawn and then spun in a machine to separate red blood cells from platelets and plasma. The PRP is then injected into the under-eye. For best results, a series of treatments is recommended spaced out monthly or based on your individual needs.

What are the possible side effects?

If side effects do develop, they tend to be mild and temporary. It is the injection itself, rather than the injectable agent that produces the mildest side effects. After injections, patients may experience swelling, redness, bruising, and soreness.

How can it be used?

PRP can be injected into the skin in areas such as the under-eyes, smiles lines, scars and is also used to treat hair loss via scalp injections. It may also be used on top of the skin in conjunction with energy devices (lasers) as well as microneedling.

Am I a candidate?

You may likely be a candidate if you exhibit early signs of aging such as fine lines, darkness, hollowing, or loss of elasticity. To best assess if this treatment is right for you, call our office at (561) 926-6150 to schedule a consultation.

PRP Therapy FAQ

How much does PRP therapy cost?
PRP therapy costs will be based on the size of the area being treated plus if it's performed with another cosmetic treatment. Your practitioner at Spyglass Dermatology will give you an estimated cost during your consultation and discuss payment methods as well as any specials on treatments.

How long do results from PRP therapy last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for as long as two months. The results will vary in every person and will depend where the treatment is used. Some of the benefits of this procedure is that it doesn't require incisions or significant downtime plus it is easier to afford.

What are the risks and complications of PRP therapy?
Potential side effects from PRP when done alone are minor and include only temporary bruising and swelling. If you get PRP therapy with microneedling, potential risks include mild scarring, delayed healing, and pigmentation changes. That’s you should have cosmetic treatments performed by an experienced technician who has studied the process.
